Oct - Nov 2015During october 2015, I was commissioned by my place of study to produce plans and concept ideas on how the library space could be re-developed. The idea behind this project was to bring more of a 'relaxed coffee shop' theme to the space. I was asked to utilise new ideas such as the addition of 'podiums' where by a new 'laptop dock' system could be started.
The project was a great success, with work to re model the library beggining that November. Head Librarian left comments on the newly designed space; 'The Library was beginning to look and feel a little outdated so I decided that a change in design might help to improve the prospect of using the library as part of a wider learning environment. Jack agreed that a change might help to improve the library's image and came back to me having created a lovely plan for us involving opening up the space and adding new furniture with the aim of making the Library more accessible and appealing to the cafe culture. We thought rather than chairs and tables we would utilise new technologies by adding in lecterns for computer work encouraging a quick turn around of equipment. We also wanted to include comfortable seating for pupils and students to sit and read in comfort. Jacks plan's conveyed exactly what I envisioned and where tweaks were nessesary such as reducing or moving the location of library equitpment, Jack ensured that each detail was perfected. The re-modelling process began the following month and the results have helped to make the library look a lot friendlier'.
